A week after Chinese New Year, San Fransisco had a parade (why not the week of, you may ask? I have no idea). So we went (six of us). It was cold (unsurprisingly). There were a lot of people (also unsurprising). I rode the BART for the first time (surprisingly. who knew there was a subway system in the city-why have I not used this sooner??).
We ended up with a pretty good view of the parade (which seemed to mostly consist of elementary school children).
It was the year of the dog (and let me tell you, they didn't let you forget that).
Eventually our interest in the Chinese parade ran out, and our interest in Chinese food took over. We found a place to go eat (which came recommended by some random SF locals next to us). They told us it was authentic (to my relief they clarified, GOOD authentic, not weird authentic). We pushed our way through the crowds to get some dinner (and dinner was good). After we topped it off with some ice cream cookie sandwiches at the Baked Bear (and those were soo good).
As we were leaving the Baked Bear, we noticed that the big dragon was finally making its appearance in the parade (seriously, how long did this parade go on for??) So we ran over to see it.
Definitely the coolest/most entertaining part of the parade.
Our route back to the BART station happened to be the same way the dragon was going after it finished the official parade route. So we were able to walk along side it, and eventually run under it to cross the street.
It was a fun night, but I think we missed most of the actual good parts of the parade while we were eating (if only we cared).
